Do you own a confectionary business? Do a lot
of baking, candy making, or even just produce small and pretty snacks on the
side? If so, you have the makings of a business that can ship items, too. You
may be content just selling your creative snacks at your brick and mortar store
or even just out of your home, but if you have the extra time and resources to
ramp up your business some, you really could sell your products to people
outside of your town or city.
Now, while worldwide shipping or even cross
country shipping may be out of the ordinary for a confectionary business,
shipping to people just an hour or two away in your region is quite feasible.
Here are a few tips on moving your business
forward while spreading outward:
Candy
boxes.
If you’re even beginning to think about
shipping your products, you have to buy some candy boxes in bulk. These things
aren’t just good for specific small candies; they can even fit small stacks of
cookies, doughnuts, or tiny cupcakes by separating them within the box. These
boxes even have the screen that show what’s within the box because of their
plastic “window” that’s on top of the box.
Advertise!
Your target market within your town or city
likely already has spread the word about your business to other people in town.
However, they’ll also be the ones to tell family members in nearby towns about
your products, and those people will be more likely to become new customers
because of the word of mouth you’ve created.
Social proofing is another great way to make
sure people outside of your town get to know about your business. But creating
opportunities to review your products online and other apps, you’ll be able to
seamlessly advertise your business without actually paying for the marketing.
Ramp up
your samples.
You never know if someone new who walks into
your shop is from in town or out of town. By adamantly offering samples, you’ll
really be able to get your treats in the mouths of potential customers. And if
they’re from out of town and realize you’ll ship to them, they’ll be much more
likely to bite on the offer.
No matter what, push forward with your
confectionary business, whether you’re increasing your real estate in a new
location or moving to shipping your goods. As the saying goes, if your business
isn’t growing, it’s dying.
